2019年小学英语晨读练习：《The hare and the tortoise》

　　Once a hare was playing near a lake in a forest. Suddenly he saw a tortoise and made fun of him. He said， “Hurry up， you slow coach！ I could have run to the other side of the lake by now.”

　　从前，有一只兔子正在森林里的湖边玩耍，突然间他看到一直乌龟，然后就开始笑话他：“走快点啊，你这个慢性子，这个时间我都能跑到湖对面了。”

　　The tortoise felt teased and dared the hare to a race. The race was to be through the wood to the top of the hill.

　　乌龟感到被嘲笑了，于是就向兔子发起了比赛。看谁先穿过森林，到达山顶。

　　The hare laughed and agreed. In a few minutes he was away and out of sight.

　　兔子大笑着答应了，几分钟之后兔子就跑得远远的看不见了。

　　“What a funny race it is！” he said to himself， “I am already half-way through. But it is too cold； why not have a nap in the warm sunshine？”

　　“这个比赛真搞笑，”兔子自言自语道，“我都跑完一半的路了，不过天好冷，不如睡个午觉晒晒太阳！”

　　The tortoise walked steadily on and on. In a short time， he passed by the sleeping hare.

　　乌龟慢慢地走啊走，过了不久，他就从睡着觉的兔子身边走了过去。

　　The hare slept for quite a while. When he woke up at last， he looked around in surprise and said to himself， “I can‘t even see poor tortoise anywhere； I had better finish the race.”

　　兔子睡了很久，终于他醒了，他四处看了看，惊讶地说：“我都还看不到那只可怜的乌龟的影子。还是跑完比赛吧！”

　　The hare ran to the goal. He was amazed to see all the animals cheering the tortoise who had arrived just a minute earlier. How ashamed he felt indeed！

　　兔子跑到终点，惊讶地发现所有的动物们都在为乌龟欢呼。原来乌龟就在几分钟前到达了终点。他感到羞愧极了。

　　Moral： Slow and steady wins the race.

　　寓意：稳扎稳打才能赢得比赛
